Modern Farm House

Rappahannock County, VA

House in Rappahannock County, Virginia

Sustainable notions include a tight footprint (1,350 SF), passive warming, as well as recycled materials such as antique chestnut flooring and logs.  High R-value materials include SIP roof panels, spray-in foam insulation.  SEER-20 heating and cooling is achieved by closed loop "geothermal" heat pump installed underwater in the adjacent pond.  Hydronic radiant flooring on both levels contributes to a warm and efficient indoor environment.  On-demand domestic hot water, Low-E windows, Energy Star-rated appliances, and dual-flush toilets also add to the "greening" of the home.
